Finishing Touches and New Foundations
October brings finishing touches inside the school and continued progress on outdoor improvements and the new bus garage. With remodeled spaces welcoming students and staff this fall, crews have continued working through final details and touch-ups, bringing the interior remodel closer to completion. The Middle-High School Lobby has new graphics and the central trophy case is now full of State Team Trophies.
Track Area and Site Improvements: The track area continues to take shape, with a new retaining wall installed at the future plaza area and new chain-link fencing around the track. Crews have also placed all concrete for the track events and completed the concrete pad for the new grandstands and press box. Behind the scenes, new electrical lines have been run for the stadium lights. The practice field playing surface has received both irrigation and hydroseeding. We hope to see green grass growing soon!
Bus Garage: Following the site preparation highlighted in our last update, construction has moved forward with foundations and footings now in place. Underground electrical and plumbing work is underway as crews continue preparing for the next stage of building construction.

From Busy Summer to Back to School
It’s been a busy summer of progress since our last update!
Interior Remodel: Inside the building, remodeled areas were ready to welcome students and staff back to school after a very productive summer. Flooring was installed in key areas, including near the elementary area, the main entry, cafeteria space and corridors. Casework was installed throughout the building, ceiling grid and ceiling pad work progressed, and finishing work continued in the cafeteria, library media center, SPED room, tech ed area and other remodeled spaces.
Crews also completed important behind-the-scenes work, including fire protection improvements, mechanical tie-ins, ductwork connections and equipment installation. The main entry has been painted, the gym display board has been installed, concrete work behind the tech ed area has been completed, the parking lot has been seal coated and pavement markings have been added.
Now that spaces are in use for the school year, crews are completing final steps to make sure all projects are wrapped up properly. The project team is working with various trade partners to address final details, touch-ups and finishing items.
Track Area and Site Improvements: Outside, major progress has been made around the track area. Crews completed foundation work for the new switchback ramp, placed the concrete ramp walk and stairs down to the track, installed trench drains at the track radius and bleacher pad, and installed concrete piers for the bleachers and press box.
The track area has also seen significant paving progress. Asphalt has been placed around the track, and the access road from the school parking lot down to the track has been installed. The asphalt now needs to cure for about 30 days before the final rubber track surface can be installed.
Bus Garage: Site work is complete and building plans are being submitted to the state for final approval. Foundation work is expected to begin before the end of September with the immediate goal of building construction to be complete before snow falls so progress can continue throughout the winter allowing for completion of the building by late Spring 2027.

Big Progress, Big Changes
If you've driven by the Middle/High School lately, you've probably noticed there's a lot happening! It’s been a busy month, and every week brings noticeable progress as our school improvements take shape. Throughout July, significant work has been completed on both the interior renovations and site work around the track and bus areas.
Inside the Middle/High School, crews completed demolition between the wood shop and clean room, continued blocking in new window and door openings, and advanced masonry and drywall work in the new special education spaces. Ceiling grid and tile installation is underway in several areas, the special education bathrooms are ready for tile and paint, and the main entry and cafeteria spaces have received the first coats of paint. Fire protection and mechanical system installation continued, while the chiller was set in place, the dust collector pad was poured, and exterior tuckpointing and block washing began. At the sites, underground stormwater utilities were completed for the track and the utility work for the bus garage was finished.

Construction continues to move forward, with significant progress since our last update
Work on the new athletic field is progressing well, with grading now approximately 80% complete. The next phase of work includes installation of the underground drainage system, which is an important step in preparing the fields for future use. The bus garage site has been brought to its final grade, creating a solid foundation for upcoming utility work. Installation of sanitary sewer and water utilities is scheduled to begin next. Renovation work inside the Middle/High School began on June 8 and continues to progress steadily with floor removal nearly complete, ceiling installation almost 90% complete, and underground plumbing work underway. Installation of HVAC and fire protection systems above the ceiling has begun, along with metal stud framing and drywall that are starting to define the renovated learning spaces.

Ground has officially been broken and MS/HS will be closed for summer construction beginning June 8th
Spring Valley School District recently celebrated an exciting milestone with an official groundbreaking ceremony for the community-approved projects getting underway this Spring/Summer. Staff, students, and board members were able to turn the first shovel of dirt to mark the start of construction. As we approach the end of the school year, our Middle/High School staff members are also packing up to move all summer activities — Community Ed Classes, Weight Room and Summer School — to the Elementary school during the construction planned for this summer. The Middle/High School will be closed for construction beginning June 8, 2026.
We’re also excited to share a first look at the new Bus Barn rendering (below) as construction on this project also gets underway later this summer.

Construction gets underway on our school improvements!
Design and bid work are complete, so during spring break crews were able to remove corridor flooring at the Middle/High School building and begin installing new fire-protection piping while our District Maintenance Team has also been busy painting the middle/high school hallways. Site preparations are also moving forward on the new athletic field, and interior renovation work is scheduled for this summer.
Last but not least, the Bus Barn general contract was awarded to Meyer Buildings, with construction to scheduled to begin once the earthwork is complete in mid to late summer.

Successful Bid Process Completed and Under Budget
Bids for the Athletics and MS/HS Renovation projects were received and approved by the School Board this month after a successful bid process with good coverage and results. The approved bids were under budget, allowing the projects to move forward as planned without requesting additional funds. The next round of bids for the transportation project is expected to wrap up in February, allowing all projects to begin as planned in Spring 2025.
